Ten hours. We are a state agency and have people who work 8, 10 and 12 hour days. The holiday is however many hours they normally work. If you work four 9s and a 4 and the holiday falls on your 4 hour day, you get a 4 hour holiday.

If it were someone other than a Christian putting such a signature, would you be as quick to tell them to stop? It seems as though we try to protect the rights of other religions, but don't hesitate to tell Christians they need to "watch it." If so…

Well in Louisiana we expect 40-50 degrees in the winter, and it is supposed to get down in the teens tonight, after only getting up to 32 today. No global warming here.

I would not rescind the offer, they have declined it in three different ways, you should be covered.

We go so far as to send letters to people with findings of abuse or neglect of our clients (developmentally disabled) and tell them that if they apply for similar work we will disclose they have a history of abuse/neglect. And then we do it. We don'…

We have sent the notice in the mail while they are out.

My son had those "big holes" in his ears, and believe it or not they do close up when they stop wearing the things that keep them open. He does have tatoos and I don't think regrets them, but covers them up when he goes on job interviews etc. He als…

We have disciplined people for actions that occurred before the FMLA and are not connected to the FMLA. Since FMLA does not have to be paid, we have suspended people while out on FMLA. FMLA is not a safe haven for people who have violated rules.

We have shift differentials that we offer by job title, so some working the same shift who have different job titles are not entitled to it (such as manufacturing gets it, custodial doesn't). We pay it only for hours worked, not paid time off. It is…

Not everyone with a high school diploma is better equipped to do the job than those without. We look at the application, how well it is filled out, if there are a lot of misspelled words and if directions were followed. If someone says they complete…

I was excited last week when I saw it for $2.27. I haven't had to fill up this week yet, so it may be lower. For an oil producing state we don't get the best prices.

Have you read the "Odd" series by Koonz? Brother Odd, Odd Hours, etc. They are pretty good.

I don't think New Orleans was hit as hard this time. I am in Central Louisiana and we have had flooding and been out of electricity at home since 4 pm Monday. In Baton Rouge they are saying it will be Sept 25 before everyone has electricity. We are …

LAST EDITED ON 06-30-08 AT 09:48AM (CST)[br][br]Regular here is going for $3.85 to $3.99. Guess we're lucky, but it might have to do with the amount of tax the state imposes. We are an oil producing state and mi…

Here in Central Louisiana it is as low as $2.869 and as high as $2.979 for regular.

The dry cleaners ought to counter sue for harassment and mental anguish. This is the most ridiculous lawsuit ever. If he hadn't gotten too fat he wouldn't have needed to have his pants let out. Unbelievable what he has put those people through. He p…

I was being interviewed for a job at the state Department of Labor. I was asked if I had any children and if I had any plans to have any. I knew it was an illegal question, but also knew if I pointed that out I certainly wouldn't get the job. I said…

I have read several articles lately that say accepting applications only via the web reduces the number of minority applicants. That would be a downside. It depends on what jobs you are recruiting for. We have some entry level healthcare jobs we wou…

In our appraisal system, a supervisor must document all needs improvement or poor ratings, and the employee has a right to request a review. As HR Director I do the reviews, and if the low rating is not backed up by sufficient documentation it can b…

We use a merit system, and if the employee is having a bad year performance wise, no merit increase. It is not automatic, it has to be MERITED.

For us it is just leave. If a person making $30 an hour donates 8 hours of leave, it doesn't matter if the person taking it makes $10 per hour or $50 per hour, leave is leave.
-
We have a policy by which employees may donate leave to a "crisis leave pool." Employees with a catastrophic illness or injury who run out of leave can apply to draw from the pool. We don't allow one EE to donate directly to another.

We always start with the person doing the job, no one knows better than him what he does 8 hours a day. We then have the supervisor review and correct--maybe we don't want him doing some of the things he is doing, or maybe he is not doing some of th…

If you do an annual performance planning and reviews you could tie the merit increase to the rating the person gets. For instance, a rating of 1 or 2, poor or needs improvement, merits no raise. A rating of 3, meets expections, gets the lowest rais…

I would give it to all who qualify to avoid complaints, legal action, etc. Unless you have a policy about newly hired employees, they should get it. The person who promoted should if others in his position do, and the person leaving won't cost you …

At our facility if a holiday falls on your regular day off, your next regularly scheduled work day is your holiday. If you require the person to work, they get double compensation for working their holiday. If they are given off, they get holiday pa…

We have had employees who want to take leave without pay to save their sick or annual leave, but it is not allowed. They are trying to circumvent our policy that when you exhaust sick leave and FMLA and can't come back to work you are removed (dismi…

We are state employees and are eligible for an annual 4% merit increase. Either you get 4% or you get nothing. Most get the 4%, but poor performers can be denied the merit increase.
