Your argument is fatally flawed. First, to ascertain the 'problem' the last place one need look is to a politician. But, I can see how a New Yorker would fall for that. Secondly, the open border is not the problem. It's only a friendly conduit to exacerbating the problem. Walls won't solve the problem. Walls would only attempt to deal with the open conduit. Ask why five times and you might wind up with UNIONS.
Don, you obviously didn't read my post, I did not posit that open borders is the problem. I merely responded to part of your previous post where you questioned rhetorically if porous borders is one of the problems. I didn't think you believed that and neither does my post support that. Drawing a conclusion from what I wrote one should realize walls are not the answer - I was not making a positive comparison to East Germany. My reference to the American Dream is the root of my argument. Illegals come here because they see it as the land of fruit and honey, of riches. For someone used to earning $2.00 per hour a job paying $6.00 is too compelling to pass up. The comic strip Wizard of Id today hit the nail on the head - the solution to the illegal immigrant problem is lower wages. But is that practical?
And, why must you attempt to show regional superiority by denigrating me because I'm from NY? I never said we need politicians to ascertain the problem. But, who has the responsibility to fix the problem? Are you counting on vigilantes to drive the illegals from our country?
Should we adopt a recurring amnesty program every decade? You know, those that made it in and cannot be caught and returned get to stay - for $2,000 no less?
Again, not a good solution.
Should we enforce the laws that already on the books?
Should we require our neighbors to cooperate with us by all means at our disposal?
Should we just "annex" Mexico and Central America and get it over with?
The European Union might not be a bad example. Expansionism by regional cooperation. While we are at it, let's pull Canada into the mix.
Then all we have to do is manage some much smaller borders way South of here.

Absolutely not.

Of course, the Coast Line grows a bit. x}>
