I say continue to do them. You never know what information might come out when someone figures he's got nothing to lose.

I thought of the contract provisions too but thought there is no way this would even be considered in a union shop.

That reminds me of when I was in grade school and those who got caught chewing gum had to wear it stuck to the tip of their nose for the rest of the day ...bad idea then, bad idea now.

There's also a feature on the home page...

Don, having dealt with children with ADHD, I know that the profanity and other inappropriate behavior often result from the frustration of not being able to focus or concentrate on a task. While you or I may become frustrated and let loose with a cu…

What about using a scanner? I don't know how expensive they are but you can scan them and save in files/folders according to job, qualifications, etc. If someone needs a copy, print it out.

Same here...but we do have a cap at 15 years...

My take was that he lied. I kind of thought it was a trick question when I first read it- he lied, he got caught, he got fired, where's the mystery? That seems like a natural progression of actions to me.

I can not smoke within 50 feet of my building's entrance. Not a big deal, I'll walk any distance and so will they.

I have to agree that lingering affects from the stroke may be it. When my Papa had a stroke he went from a fun-loving guy to an angry old man, always yelling, complaining and sometimes he could be downright nasty. Talk to her, let her know you've no…

We are a very progressive company but our employee files are on old-fashioned paper and are, if possible, hand delivered from one supervisor to another when an employee gets a new job. If hand delivery is not possible, FedEx or UPS is used and a sig…

I would not loosen your attendance policy, I think you'd be setting the stage for poor attendance in the future. Thats not a bad policy at all for the first 90 days and if your post-90 days policy is just as rigid, they might as well get used to it …

I'd stop telling this co-worker anything, she has a big mouth. If your boss continues to ask her questions, go to him and say "Jane said you were asking about me, thank you for your concern. You know you can always come to me".

I think asking folks to send a card is more over the top than asking for prayers. If I got this e-mail, I'd delete it. No one knows whether I prayed or not. But the card? She's obviously in distress, unless someone complains, I'd leave it alone. …

I am so sorry Hunter, how tragic. It sounds like you did everything you could to help him. I hope you're going to make your own visit to EAP...

I do not envy you your task...why,may I ask, is it your task to begin with? But anyway, I would handle it the same way as addressing body odor...here are tips from a Q&A from Joan Lloyd who answers HR questions on body odor... Try to keep in mi…

Better to call it part-time. The term came from a time when mothers only worked when their children went to school. Use the same criteria and benefits schedule you would for part-timers. As far as setting their own hours, my only suggestion is that …

I have to ask - is this the same guy who does not want to wear steel-toes?

According to my latest info, MA has no statute on drug testing. I was drug tested as a condition of hire. Check www.detma.org for more info as the laws may have changed since what I have was published.

According to the book "Labor Pains" (great name, huh?) Montana is the only state which is not at-will.

Thats a great idea that has worked well in so many situations. Nursing homes use animals alot with tremendous success. But there is certainly a distinct difference between a counselor bringing in an animal for therapy and another employee bringing i…

Isn't that what the steel toe is supposed to avoid? I've never heard of that. Is there anyway you can check with a boot manufacturer to see if this is a legit claim or an attempt from employees to not have to pay extra for steel-toes?

My company is large and very team oriented. HR often works in teams because not everyone knows about all the functions. We have to have teams to be sure we are covering all aspects on certain projects.

As with any contagious disease, I'd ask to see release to work from the doctor.

My company is real big on project management. They put together an online curriculum in the area. I'm not sure how helpful it is; I've been on big projects headed by those who have some type of Project Management certificate and its been a joke. And…

Better yet, ask yourself how you'd feel knowing this guy had the keys to YOUR apartment...

Agreed...there have been a few posts lately about children and sex offenders- what to do, who to believe, etc. My vote is still to err on the side of the children's safety.

Is it in writing that a visible tattoo is grounds for immediate dismissal? If not, could he be asked to wear a shirt that covers it?
