Come down on her the same way you would any other employee who is receiving their first disciplinary incident. If your hope is to hasten a resignation, it could backfire if you change the rules for dealing with her. If your hope is to change her beh…

Believe it or not, our best resource for helping abuse victoms are the unions. Is this man a union member? If so, I wonder if there is anything they could do to help.

Do you have an alternate location, perhaps out of state, for him to work in? Perhaps if he knew he could work and still support his family he may be willing to relocate for a while. Poor guy, trying to do the right thing. I hope everything turns out…

Nebraska considers this a paid leave and requires employers to pay full salary minus any compensation by the court. Neb. Rev. Stat. 25-1640

Sorry, we Democrats don't go for such flashy accessories. :oo

If you've got your name on your belt in turquoise and silver, you've got bigger problems than your socks and bra.

You're right, she should. Black bra + white shirt = dumb, unless you're preparing for your MTV video. I used to work in a preschool and one of the family service workers came into my classroom asking for a shirt from my house area. She was wearing…

Ok, that I can understand. If she's hopping up on the desk and pulling a Sharon Stone from Basic Instinct, there is a problem. Never mind the yuck factor. I remember my father telling us "tables are for glasses, not for a**es". I suppose the same ru…

If the person is wearing a mini skirt and no panties and their job requires frequent bending, sure. Other than that, whats the problem? No one wants to see anyone else's stuff hanging and moving all over but some people just don't like feeling restr…

I don't think I'd single her out though, let everyone know ahead of time what the event is. I don't think its inappropriate, I think it sounds like fun, but everyone is different.

We fly the cheapest way possible. And if it saves money in the long run, we encourage employees to leave early and stay over on a Saturday and enjoy the city they are visiting on a Sunday before they attend their Monday meeting. Since most everyone …

I must be in a crappy mood today but I have to ask my self what management doesn't want you hearing. Talking to employees? Thats part of what HR does, especially when the employee feels he or she can not approach the supervisor. Imagine how your emp…

She says she doesn't remember the incident 7 years ago? She's lying. She can't very well say "Sure, I remember that but I decided I don't give a damn about what you have to say so I continued to behave in an in appropriate way". People like her are …

I think Missy and Nancy are overreacting. What made Nancy uncomfortable about Sue's request to be roomamtes? Did she interpret it as a sexual advance? Why does Missy think others think she is gay by association? Maybe I'm extremely open minded but l…

Good point but no, no males.

I love the way you put things Cinderella. The funniest thing about the motivator is that she herself owned a salon that went out of business. My mother and I have our ideas about how she landed this new job but a lady doesn't say it out loud. x0:). …

I bet many would follow her but she had to sign some contract saying she would not work for another salon within so many miles of her current location. I'm not sure whether that would hold up, I guess its a kind of non-compete, I've never seen it. …

I appreciate your honesty and experience. She's not in a position to go to a new place, she's got a good steady clientel where she is. You bring up a good point about working through a break though, she is often chastized for not folding towels duri…

There is probably not more you could have done. Poeple will only get help when they are ready, not when others want them to get it. Regardless of the fact that you accepted her resignation, follow Don's advice. Call her in a day or so, see how she's…

Hr.com is having an on-line seminar about exactly this. Here is the seminar link site. http://www.hr.com/Events/HRSeminarsDesc.cfm?eventID=33

I'm looking into the "mini-tuck" - 7 inch hairline scar and back on my feet in no time!

I smoke and I am punctual to the point of being obsessive. This is not a smoking issue, its a performance/discipline issue. I have come across smokers who do use the habit as an excuse for being late, sneaking out of a meeting, abusing break times, …

Ours is very similar, HR gets involved at the very end when there is a termination. We have union folks and they are disciplined according to the contract which does not involve HR at all, supervisors only.

LAST EDITED ON 04-17-04 AT 06:42AM (CST)[br][br]That is sad but keep in mind that a victim of domestic violence may quit her job not to flee her abuser, but because she is afraid someone at work will find out an…

Many states do allow this as a legitimate reason for collecting unemployment. There are state specific laws, check your local laws on this.

In Illinois, jury duty is unpaid leave, you are being generous for paying the ten days. See 705 Ill. Comp. stat. S 310/10.1 - thats not realkly an S, its a squiggly thing not on my keyboard. Every company is different, I was on a jury for 6 week…

We use IM and in most situations it is very useful, like when I'm on a conference call and someone needs to speak to me NOW. One can cut and paste the correspondence into word to save it, it didn't take me long to figure that out. The worst thing ab…

I think it depends upon the audience. When I started working with people from Texas I was horrified when they told me to "get with" someone from IT. In Boston, that is urban slang for having sex. Do they need to change? No. But I understand that the…

We have a zero tolerance policy, porn on the computer is grounds for immediate dismissal.

One alternative we used was asking retirees to come back to work during the strike. Some were glad for a few extra bucks, others told us where to go and how to get there, they'd rather die than be a scab.
