She slept through the first day. She slept most of the second day and then, when she called to say she wasn't coming in after all, she said she was going to get on the treadmill rather than clean up and come in because that would make her feel bette…

Thanks Don. Haven't written back and forth with you in awhile. It's in North Carolina, a pork farmer and his family who are retiring. (I thought it was chickens last week and then found out it was pigs - it's a client of the firm where I work) They …

The business will cease, only be renting the property. The owners are retiring. The plan will cease as the former owners will not be on it.

Thanks one and all for your advice. I am trying to find a creative solution :-? since nothing else has worked. Yes, she is exempt, a CPA, in a supervisory role, to boot. It's a long story but she is stressed and has been seeing a doctor. She wants t…

I would love to do that, management won't do it.8-| They want them to work for another six months at which time they will resign.

I wonder if DD knows how much she gets blasted on this and one of SHRM's bulletin boards :-?

I agree with Lorrie and your management. I would add that on two occasions I have had to use signed automation policy acknowledgements when terminating employees for violations. The signed acknowledgements made terminations go very smoothly.

When we have severance from a RIF, we pay it out, following the regular pay schedule. They don't file unemployment until their severance has been paid out. Hopefully, by then they have found another job and moved on with their life.

I asked a very similar question recently on the Wage and Hour part of the forum (Check out the Topic: Help - Two Classifications - OT or Straight) and was told that in terms of FLSA the relationship was of one employee, no matter how many jobs, to o…

I haven't checked the forum in a couple of days and found this thread. I feel I have to respond and hope I don't offend anyone. Julie, I live in the Bible Belt and have learned to be cautious about revealing the fact that I am Jewish (I don't pract…

Yes, you can do that. It is called a release. You might want to consult an attorney if there are issues.

Chalk up one more for lunacy.

Don, We need you!! Who else will keep us on the straight and narrow, or is it crooked and wide? :-S Come back soon and, if not, keep in touch!!

Unfortunately, it's already a pretty rotten barrel. It is also a real hot bed, pun intended.

We are sure they resigned. They are calling employees here telling them that so-and-so manager doesn't like them either and they should also quit. BYW this is a supervisory level ee that quit.
-
Don, I, too, was wondering where you have been. I am so sorry. I know how hard it must have been for you as well as for him. You have such a kind heart.

Thanks everyone. We decided the chair is probably a reasonable accomodation. Only thing is we are going to see if we can find a chair that serves the same purpose but is less costly.
-
I guess the question really is, if this is not work related, what is our obligation to provide the chair?
-
Our attorney gave us a "45 days to review" release to use for RIF's and a "21 days to review" release for a case where we were coming to a mutual agreement to sever the working relationship.

Before we give advice we really ought to know what she was supposed to do with the money. Whether there was a procedure in place that she followed or didn't follow, or she was left to her own devices, makes a huge difference in how you handle what h…

Wow, I was only kidding when I mentioned the HR Police. I missed all but the first couple of postings on that thread and thought it was in the wrong forum. I must be psychic after all. x:-8

I bet they tried to move it to the HR har de har har forum and it got lost by mistake. Either that or the HR police thought we were having too much fun and put a stop to that x:=|

By the gurgling, how else?

For a while we had pink plastic fish appearing all over the office. There must have been hundreds of them finding their way onto desks and tables over a period of about six months. Once in a while, you would answer your phone and there would be a fi…
