• First, check your local state laws. Second, contact your insurance broker to find out what your liability could be and if your insurance company covers this situation.
• I don't know what industry you are in, but I would be concerned about someone who is not only leaving their current employer, but are "promising" they'll being along some major accounts. I know it happens in a lot of industries, but I just can't bel…
• Forget the war paint. It appears that they are looking for the company to create a reason for these ees to sue the company. Treat them the same as you would anyone else. With a little patience, they will soon be gone and you will have the paperwor…
• And, as a matter of policy, never allow the ee to sign the severance agreement as soon as they receive it. Whether or not the ee reads the agreement or not ( or hires an attorney or not) is not your business. However, you don't want it to appear th…
• Prohibiting ees from using the e-mail system for non-business purposes would only result, in this case, of punishing the receivers of the e-mail. You cannot fire the sender anymore. However, as was previously suggested, there are spam blocking pro…
• Photos for IDs are common. However, under the circumstances you give, it would make a normally cautious person (such as myself) paranoid. I think it is a poor idea.
• Sounds to me as if she has a mental disease. If you have a psychologist or psychiatrist (or even a nurse or doctor) associated with your school, go talk to them. If not, call a hot line or visit a local facility and ask what should be done.
• LAST EDITED ON 03-22-04 AT 02:25PM (CST)[br][br]Actually, last week an ee won a large court settlement in a wc case involving the flavorings(the non-butter junk that supposedly makes the popcorn taste buttery) o…
• Do you have an attendance policy? If yes, follow it with everyone. If no, time to write one. As to whether or not the ee has a genuine health issue, do you know this for sure. If yes, give the ee FMLA papers. If not, don't raise the issue (unle…
• The problem with the paid suspension is that it means the company is taking sides and sending a message as to who it believes. Check with an attorney. Also, the supervisors should be aware that there is a restraining order and what the terms are.
• She's otherwise, neat, pleasant, helpful >and with mentoring will do a good job. > >Sounds like you have a real gem. Corn rows and/or braids are common. Actually, they are probably one of the neatest hairstyles around. I would …
• HE must use the men's room.
• Do you have a job description. If so, and if includes the fact that the person must work at Casinos etc., then give the applicant the description and ask if they can do the job.
• Anytime you hear about any type of harassment, you must follow through. If this is not investigated and if need be the manager disciplined, in the future this could be costly to the company. Furthermore, if the company does nothing, the male manag…
• I'm going to base my reply based on certain assumptions. First, the supervisor has refused this ee a vacation since last October. Second, the ee has asked to take a vacation. For morale purposes, it is unfair to max a vacation for an ees and then r…
• ANY act of theft, no matter how small, will result in immediate dismissal.
• We never give out information except to verify that an individual was or is currently an ee without written authorization. Whether or not the ee is temporary or full-time doesn't matter.
• Any ee who has to be suspended for 5 days obviously did something that was not best for the company. I have never known a suspension (even for one day) that didn't in some way inconvenience the company. Others have stated in better terms than I why…
• LAST EDITED ON 03-08-04 AT 02:24PM (CST)[br][br]Are you prepared to do this for everyone who does something serious enough to warrant a five day suspension. Next time it could be an ee who needs a paycheck every…
• First of all, the secretaries have to be told that are expected to behave as professionals. They don't have to like each other, they just have to do their job in a professional manner. In NY city, there is a free service that provides conflict re…
• > >We consider the circumstances surrounding every >positive test. I believe the question was asked earlier but how do you consider circumstances? Either the ee tests positive or they don't. If they test positive, there are conseq…
• I would agree with the above. Here, we made the people ultimately responsible for safety (one at each plant) supervisors. That way, they can go over to any employee (including management) and order them to obey the safety rules. It's been helpful.
• I agree but can you picture how this would play in the local media (War hero canned by..... Company).
• We do not allow the use of cell phones during working hours. We do allow for necessary personal calls (the ones from kids who just got home from school etc)on our telephone system. Personally, (and yes I have cell phone), I don't understand what t…
• I am assuming that the ee's job is covered by union contract. We, also, have a union. We, however, have absentee/tardiness rules and we enforce them. This still appears to be management problem. If management will not enforce the contract, then …
• I agree with Balloonman. This is a management problem. If management will not enforce the rules then the rules will be abused. Furthermore, it creates problems for other supervisors to follow the rules.
• There is an old expression.."I am not a bigot, I hate everyone." An employee who is mean and disrepectful to everyone is creating a hostile environment. If people quit because management does nothing about, the company loses. If people hate their …
• In the real world, employers have a right to set dress standards. The employees can talk to the COO, but in the end, the COO's decision is final.
• Sounds let this ee has been a problem from the get go. Currently it's an attitude problem. If the ee is unhappy with the job (not to mention looking for another job), you will probably always have some sort of issue with her. I think the time has …
