The percentage is a phony figure. First, it is only incoming calls, not outgoing. Second, it doesn't tell you how long the person is on the phone. Third, it doesn't tell when the person was on the phone. Finally, it doesn't give you the distribu…

what about people who were married in San Francisco, Vermont or Canada?

There is a tremendous managerial problem here (and I am not talking about this branch manager). The company institutes a non-frat policy and immediately excuses two people from it's enforcement. When other ees refuse to sign the non-frat policy, m…

Had a similar case. Bringing in the doctor's note after the termination was ruled not to have excused the fact that the employee neither reported to work or called in. By the way, we have a 3 day no-call policy.

No. The supervisor just has to be told that the employee cannot relieve at the receptionist. If you know how long, you can tell the supervisor that.

Since most applicants ask about benefits at the interview, we advise them what is available and costs. However, we do not ask them their marital and/or dependent status.

With advance notice, the employer has the right to change or create a dress code.

I would suggest that your company not change your maternity leave policy, but eliminate it all together. Treating maternity differently is illegal.

Everyone forgot an obvious question--what language does she speak? I believe we are assuming Spanish. In any case, if this goes to trial you lost. That aside, if the job description didn't matter before, why has it suddenly become an issue? (it wa…

I hope you stay in HR. At times the job is depressing. I have always hated layoffs. That is because I have tell good people that through no fault of their own they are unemployed. However, these people need to be told by someone who understands r…

Out of curiosity, what do you do if the results of the investigation show a serious rule has been broken?
-
My nightmare was going to the union and having to say "We have this insubordinate ee who refused to break a company rule. However, even though we know the manager is trying to protect his derriere (we do know politically correct terms), we are goin…

It is amazing how fast things happen. Manager has been terminated. First, the previous warning had been in writing and he had signed that he received it. However, we (includes Company President) were still inclined to just suspend him. However, m…

I have a daughter with ADD & OCD. Medication has helped tremendously. She used to curse a lot (especially amongst her friends)but with help has learned to control it. I am confused however by not wanting to read a brief manual from a college …

Wouldn't she be entitled to disability for part of the leave?

I hate to tell you this (this is very painful for anyone from NYC) but the supreme court has ruled that the Statue of Liberty is in New Jersey.

Mwild - No offense was ever taken. I tried to be appear to witty and failed. Sorry.

Far be it for me to pick on you Mwild (I leave that Ray), however, I am utterly shocked that you would compare NY to California. Nothing compares to California when it comes to employment law. And many of us are very grateful that we not situated n…

I'm a great believer in trying to be as consistent as possible. Therefore, if it was me I would go with the termination because of attendance. I am curious-why was this a felony gun charge?

If there is a Wal-mart on Rodeo Dr. in Beverly Hills you might see them there.

I've been looking for clunky heeled shoes, with a thin strap in the back and steel toes, but they don't seem to make it. I have interviewed people wearing my suit, appropriate accessories and steel-toes shoes who have stared and stared at my feet …

If they had any intelligence, they wouldn't wear the shoes. #-o That aside, we have a rule in place. No problem with the factory workers. The problem was the office workers. However, the problem hasn't arisen since we sent two ees home.

If they are Republicans, they are called Secretary. If they are Democrats, they are called Administrative Assistants.

If you call in sick, it should not mean that you don't feel well enough to work but you feel well enough to go shopping, conduct personal business, go the beach, go to the job fair. It was obvious to me that the poster got caught in a lie and was h…

Most of the hospitals in this area (especially if the have an er or trauma unit), have walk-in areas for people in distress.

Post the position. You've always done it. Besides, you may be pleasantly surprised.

We have a point system which I hate. But the union hates it more. I understand that when it was initially written, there was consultation with an ee committee, but the policy is the company's. We have constantly refused to make the system a part o…

Steelboy-You have too many rules. While, one of the important requirements of the job (if not the most important requirement) is to protect the company, if I had to gave up my humanity to do it, I would change jobs.
