So its just me?

I agree for the most part. Good employees should be able to provide good references. That has not usually been a problem. Its the negative or semi-negative references that are difficult to find. Sometimes your choice isnt between a "good" appli…

By the way, everyone needs to straighten up, tidy up your hair, and tuck in their shirts. HR HERO is tweeting a link of our conversation here. We are on display! Note that Tony didn't warn us ahead of time. Yet another example of the decline in c…

And by the way, my respect for Pres. Obama went way up after his comment about Kanye.
-
The public outcry against Kanye (even Pres. Obama called him a jackass) and Joe Wilson are positive signs that we haven't completely lost our sense of civility. On one hand, we tend to like our outbursts and public meltdowns. Who remembers McEn…

I thought this one was better. My wife says I look "crazed".

Isnt it awesome that we can have fun with this? They say laughter is the best medicine. I'll vaccinate myself thank you.
-
Sorry, Plynnl, they would need to remaster the Beatles to sound like 80s alternative new wave before I'd be interested.
-
China has developed a vaccination for the swine flu and will begin mass inoculations soon. Why do I feel like I'd rather risk the swine flu than get inoculated with a Chinese vaccination?

Go wash your hands. Maybe the value in handwashing isnt so much the handwashing but just the activity that keeps your mind occupied from thinking about fevers, coughs, etc. Now that you mention it, Im feeling a bit warm...

Don't start your banana dance yet. Those "people" may be the only ones left after this outbreak.
-
They have a name for people who wash their hands 24 times a day you know.
-
Well, that gives "Labor Day" a whole new meaning. Congrats!
-
Wash your hands every 20 minutes? That seems excessive. Thats 3 times an hour or 24 times during an 8 hour shift.

Here in the Pacific Northwest, some 2000 students at Univ of Washington have reported H1N1 symptoms. Its been covered by the local news but I am suprised its not been a bigger story.

Im not complaining. Much. I get all my holidays back in December when I have two weeks off. Yesterday was actually a fun work day as we celebrated the end of our summer season, had a burger party on our beachfront lawn, and bid adieu to 90 summ…

I guess stinkin' not.

Nice post, Library HR. Are you an HR person working in a Libary? I am just taking a wild guess here...
-
If you are corrupted, Nae, its probably our fault!

I agree with you Frank. This is one of my pet peeves. What riles me even more are companies that will call asking for very specific employment references while their own policy is to give out just dates of employment. We like to scare ourselves …
-
I tend to give detailed references for employees who have done a good job here. I feel they deserve our recommendation. For the bad employees (and they are less frequent) I will be honest but I stick to whats documented in the file or just answer…

Are our hands really tied? Is there truly any risk or liability to disclosing factual employment information in good faith? Have any of you or do you know any company that was actually sued over a reference provided?
-
Of course we do. I am not sure why people wont post. Are they shy? They certainly can't be intimidated by our wisdom.
-
We don't use post offer-pre employment testing Joannie but I am just posting this because I feel bad that no one has responded to your question.
-
Did John just say what I think he said?
-
Hmmm... so are you occassionally ripping the headphones from their ears to make sure they are listening to music and not a short story by Flannery O' Conner?
-
Happy Birthday Frank!

I think its fair to say that some severely depressed people are also manic so its not unusual to have periods of "highs" along with their "lows". So, like the others have said, I dont think its wise to jump to a conclusion based on a few photos. …

"these kids today".. did you really say that? Were you in your bathrobe and slippers shaking your fist from your front yard at the time? I dont think its necessarily about motivation or initiative. Its about where people go to FIND jobs. If app…

I remember when these social networking sites where pretty new and many HR managers would not touch them with a ten foot pole for fear of who knows what. Things have changed.
