  • It is not a big deal for us either but with so many companies closing their doors we can hire experienced workers who are closer to retiring than not. Right now we do not have a minimum number of years of service to qualify either. I was hoping th…
  • Thank you Sharon. This is the best explaination that I have seen.
  • Hey, thanks a lot. The point made by SNC makes perfect sense. The daughter's child was never eligible for coverage so she would not be eligible now.
  • I used to do on site drug testing. I walked the person to the single stall bathroom without a sink and watched them go in alone. We had a sink outside of the bathroom so they could wash their hands afterwards. It was very simple and effecient.
  • Thanks, Sonny. I have worked at one other place that allowed blood drives and they did nothing additional after the employees gave.

  • A fairly simple solution would be to continue what you are doing - telling the contract employee they must quit before you could hire them. Then I would go one step further and tell them that once they tell you they have quit, you must call the con…
  • Liked the animation - very South Parkish without the profanity.
  • [QUOTE=Library HR;719174]Currently we are still asking for three letters of reference from our "Professional" applicants. I do not want to keep doing this just because that is what we have always done. I do accept these letters via e-mail. Do you…
  • Good job Leslie. The answer to #8 is you hold the egg higher than three feet (ex. 5 feet). The egg will drop 3 feet and will not have broken. Of course, at 5 feet you will have an awful mess to clean up. With your #1 answers, a batter could reac…
  • Thanks for all of the advice and suggestions. I should have mentioned the ages of my kids. They are 10 and 5. I'll keep checking back for more insight. Hershey park and factory is the only thing that we absolutely have to see. I sure would have…

  • A company I worked for several years past had a similar incident but far less magnitude. It was not at our plant but a sister plant just 50 yards away. A boyfriend of an employee walked into the plant looking for his girlfriend. Upon finding her …
  • Thanks for the support. The ALA is a great idea. The avenue to tap into others experiences are just one more reason why this forum is such a good resource. We don't want to set the smokers apart but more and more we get complaints about employees…
  • You're right. There are a lot of things to think about. I guess to complicate matters, we are a manufacturing company in the rural South (Virginia). We plan on making the policy effective for our entire property and not just the building. The pu…
  • We are the same as BettyBoop with one exception: We do not have a cap on the number of hours (144)we would buy back. As stated before, most people would rather use the vacation as opposed to simply receiving the cash for it.
  • We used to send our employees to the doctor as well. This meant lost production of these employees not to mention paying them to ride, wait at the doctor's office and then ride back to work. We are approximately 45 minutes away from the doctor's o…
  • We do nothing for this designated special day. I have not heard a peep of discontent or disbelief that we don't honor the day nor the administrative staff. Maybe being an ESOP company, everyone has a different mindset on these types of things. At…
  • That sounds like information I need very much. I have put a call in to our TPA to see if our booklets, which are pretty thorough, cover enough information to be considered a SPD but have not received a call back today. The booklet does not give th…

  • Thanks. From what I have read it would be a case of duplicating the insurance booklet and that didn't make a lot of sense to me. I will check with our TPA and it may be that I can provide a letter giving any infomation not provided in the booklet.…

  • Thank you for your responses. Crout, in no way did I mean anything derogatory with the use of "amigo". I have worked with many hispanics over the years and have nothing but admiration for their work ethic and devotion to their family.
  • Yes, you can ask. You do not want to seem as if you are encouraging them to leave however. I have found by explaining the reason behind asking, "planning purposes", the of age employees are more receptive and less suspicious.
  • You may want to try your state's Division of Motor Vehicles. We do an annual check of MVR's and I believe the cost is $8.00 per record checked.
  • With casinos, you probably perform criminal background checks. Do you limit the check to Nevada or do you perform national checks?
  • We do not have sick days but I have had the same type of question concerning donating vacation time. What we told those employees, who wanted to donate the time, is because of the difference in hourly rates, they could put what time they wanted to …
  • Thanks for the article. After a solution for whatever is up with the VP is found, I'll try to get those personal PC's for everyone or at least have everyone's home internet bills paid.
  • I am going to count it as pleasurable work time.
  • You are one of the odd men out. I guess we have some personnel with that title but they do so much more than the perceived "secretarial" duties. We have recently had some employees state they want a job typing letters and filing paperwork, but lon…
  • It is my understanding as well that the employer sets the dress code that it expects from it's employees. The company has the final say. I recently hired a well dressed lady for a receptionist position. Her first day on the job she wore a sleevel…
  • Same policy here. We will observe the 1st on the 31st.
  • I believe it has been fully covered by everyone and the man should be terminated. I will offer one thing. Our policy states if an ee has less than one year senority and fails a drug/alcohol test, they are terminated period, no questions asked. If…
  • I checked out the website. Thanks. Right now I am still not sure if this is what they mean but the website is a good check. And free to boot! I guess I'll just continue to call until I get an answer. The customer is in neither the financial nor …
