• Sorry, sorry, sorry. I didn't mean to cause you such distress with my little quip. I apologize.
• How much does it pay? I might be interested for the right money. I have a degree in history and come from a long line of Pennsylvania Dutch farmers. I think it might be in my blood.
• Sounds like you were giving her feedback on her performance, and she got angry and walked off the job. I agree with the advice not to admit that you too were a little hot under the collar.
• I agree marc, but as the poster stated, the EE just sits around not doing much of anything. I think that would have been suspicious even back in the "old days."
• >Another item we would like to impose is if we >have overstaffing, we would like to have >"volunteers" take certain days off according to >how many they accrue per year. If they do not >volunteer, a rotating schedule will be m…
• Does the doc have a copy of her job description so he/she knows the essential functions of her job?

• I would discipline the employee for giving out an unauthorized reference in violation of company policy, then send a letter clarifying that the reference was a personal one and not a business reference.
• I'm confused.....is she alleging harassment or discrimination? Everything you've described points to discrimination, but you've been labeling it as harassment. In any event, I don't see what can be gained by not defending your company at the UI ap…
• Mace is correct. You can't simply slap the label "contractor" on a person, then treat him/her as a regular employee. It's against the law.
• It's sort of like saying I want my own vehicle so I can leave a mess at my own liesure and not worry about anyone complaining. His skin condition is not a license to be a slob.
• Look through the EE's past evaluations. There's gotta be something positive in there. The important thing is not to fabricate any information. You want any info you give out to be supported by internal documents.
• I agree with Lisa....if I don't like the thread I don't bother reading it. No one's holding a gun to my head. I would only add a question: I understand that personal attacks aren't okay, but what about professional attacks? Something like, "WHAT …
• Do they still give "medical" discharges? Assuning they do, (it sounds like Gene and Nat'l Guard would know for sure) wouldn't asking the question about less than honorable discharges be akin to asking about an applicant's medical history? Or is th…

• Easy, Don, easy. I'm not accusing you of anything.

• I think the Hep B shots would be moot at this point because he's already infected. Can you term him? Yes. Is that discrimination? Yes. The question is....is it illegal discrimination? For that you need to become familiar with the ADA, get some…

• I would be very worried. What an HR Assistant is doing posing as a medical professional is beyond me.
• How reliable is your information, and how did you came across it? As Pork advised, I would check his application. If he lied on his app I would base his termination on that fact.

• Define "old fogey." If you say it's anyone who remembers Eisenhower I'm gonna be a little upset. And what's wrong with being an old fogey, anyhow? Old Fogeyism has it's place.
• For the non-exempt people it's pretty simple: if they don't take the 4.5 hours as Personal Time, they don't get paid for that 4.5 hours. You're not required to compensate non-exempts for doing no work. For the Exempt folks, however, it gets a litt…
• I agree. If Management is unwilling to follow their own policies, it's not your place to be the Tank Top Sheriff.
• I think I'm in the same business as you, and our policy states that if you cannot return to work after FMLA has run out you must resign your position.
• They may not have their forms online to download. What don't you call their office directly?
• I think you're wrong. Check out this site... http://www.oktax.state.ok.us/
• And by the way, the cook will be able to collect Unemployment for those three months.
• You need to consider.... 1) Did you call it a "lay-off" in your documentation? If so, you implied that there might be a call-back at some future date when your business picks up. If you really just wanted to get rid of the person(s)involved you s…
• Not to sound too cynical, but I'm really not losing sleep over the larger political/national security issues here. Maybe I should be, but I'm not. All I want is two things: 1) To obey the law fully so my company is not liable. 2) To create the a…
• I wish I had been required to learn Spanish as a kid. It would now help greatly in furthering my HR career.
• I still can't figure out why the default language around here can't be Pennsylvania Dutch. It's very irritating.
• While I agree it may serve to retard the assimilation process, I also see the viewpoint that being bi-lingual will simply help get the job done....assuming that communication with parents facilitates the educational process. It reminds me of all th…
• Good luck, hang in there, and while I can't speak for anyone else, if I can be of any help to you in any way, please don't hesitate to use the email address in my profile. Take care.
