I am in banking. We use them with "licensed" associates such as insurance and brokerage. None have been challenged. There are some things you need to watch out for such as the geographic area and how long the non-compete is in force after separat…

Agree as well.

We use ADP's ezLabor. We require supervisors to approve employees' time. It seems a prudent business practice to me. We are all capable of forgetting to enter something we should have and the supervisors are a check in the system.

We do allow this. Employees may donate vacation leave to someone who needs additional sick leave. The donors have to keep at least 40 hours of sick leave and the recipient must be out of sick leave and have no more than 40 hours of vacation leave.…

Good point, Frank! Perhaps the message is more like, "Abililty to communicate effectively." Someone who cannot speak English at all may not meet that requirement, but someone who uses sign language with an interpreter may very well.

If you are a member of SHRM, you can also find samples on their website. I haven't actually used any of the products for sale as I have found you can usually find good resources through your membership in HR Hero, SHRM, or others. Call me "tight."

I don't think it would work here. We accept only our own application form and only for posted positions. We do not accept unsolicited resumes.

Sounds good, but haven't seen them in South Dakota. The point they are trying to make is one that needs to be made.

We give out references with a signed release and waiver of liability from the employee or former employee. We respond only to written questions and our answer is given in writing based on information in the personnel record. This is done to meet t…

We leave it up to employees if they want to e CPR certified. I agree it is wise to become familiar with your state's good samaritan laws which may provide protection to those that attempt to save the life of another.

We have a contest each year and have two types of turkey -- one is the traditional roasted turkey and the other is "trash can turkey" cooked outside over charcoals in an upside down trash can. They are both delicious!

I would agree that it is likely you are required to have an affirmative action plan and need to collect your applicant data. We are a bank as well and do an annual plan (which is outsourced -- if you want to know whom we use, I would be happy to sh…

I'm way behind on this post but wanted to let you know I haven't been posting. I continue to have trouble getting the daily updates. Without those reminders, I just don't get in to post. I'll bug the Employer's Forum folks again to see what they …

I agree -- only as much detail as you would want revealed if someone from your company were able to get their hands on the posting. Cheryl

Here are some that have touched me over the years: "Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, Champagne in one hand - strawberries in…

Paid $1.86 at Sam's Club in the western part of the state yesterday; still $2.29 here in our town -- we always seem to be higher! Didn't think I would ever see it below $2 again! Cheryl

My wish for Christmas is for Duke to get a good home -- keep us posted! (I also wish for world peace but doubt I can get that one.) Cheryl

I haven't signed up yet -- need to take the time to do that (someday)!

I can't resist a good celebration -- I'm off to Kansas to join in. Hope to see you all there! Cheryl

Finally, the recognition we deserve! I'll have to contemplate how to celebrate this special day. Cheryl

Any of you noticing more scooters? That's what we're seeing. Of course, our traffic isn't at all bad -- we have the 5-minute rush around 8 am and 5 pm but that's it.

Belated Happy Birthday Rita and many more! Cheryl

I took the SPHR several years ago. Another HR Department co-worker is currently studying to test this fall. I, too, used the SHRM learning system and highly recommend it. I also attended one of the SHRM prep courses and it was very good. I ended…
