I hit their website a few times a week, and I do read the magazine. I went to one local chapter meeting a few years ago, though, and that's a few hours of my life I'd like to have back. Maybe if Nae moves to St. Louis I will attend again. **==

SHRM? They're still around?

Health went down significantly when we switched carriers in April. Dental, Life, and LTD were flat, and STD went down a few percent.

Many states have started to list smokers as a protected class. In what state are you located?

FMLA wouldn't even come into play for me. I'd just work with the employee to determine whether the time off was unpaid or covered by vacation, and be done with it.

I'm a big flu shot fan, but unless you are in a health-sensitive position where the flu provides exceptional risks - nursing home, etc. - I think you're playing with fire here.
-
I did! I mean... I will! Well, it's hard to explain.

I'd put out an APB on anyone named "Peter, Peter".

Admit it Joannie. You agree with me more often than you like. Certainly more often than you agree with Paul.

Based on the doctor's notes that cross my desk, I cannot imagine that any employee would have a difficult time getting an FMLA certification for that. I have a current employee who was on FMLA for that situation shortly before I got here, and a for…

Welcome to the Forum, Jacky! Establishing KPIs for a new organization (or unit) is tricky... Ideally, you would define KPIs that would accomplish one of these goals: 1. Provide a measurement of improvement over previous readings. For example, de…

How does Nevada get around that?

Tell your receptionist that if she thinks this is really a problem, you're going to have to replace her with someone who speaks/understands Spanish. I bet it becomes a lot less troublesome then.

I've seen that 30-year figure also, and I agree it's ridiculous.

I had a boss for a few years who reveled in "testing" managers' allegiance to the organization by forcing them to be cruel to their employees. He once directed me to fire 16 employees (any 16), knowing that seasonal demands would require that I sta…

There is no statutory requirement in Montana.* *Source: 50 Employment Laws in 50 States; Section 12-B. O:)

Again, I would go back to my original question: What do YOU want to do? If your bonafide essential functions preclude accommodations, then you can either provide a non-FMLA discretionary leave of absence or you can fire him. What do YOU want to d…

There was a book? Or are you Fred Savage? That doesn't count, since your grandpa actually did the reading. You just laid there and sniffled.

What risk?

Whatever you end up with needs to be a natural outgrowth of your existing culture. If your culture is to celebrate successes, and you're looking to formalize that process, then you're on to something. On the other hand, if you don't have that kind…

I might have entered, just so I could pick the boss as the next one fired.

1. What do you want your options to be? If he doesn't qualify for FMLA, and he can't do the job, it's really up to you whether you let him go or keep him. 2. Is he fully commissioned? If so, he may be motivated to build sales without the tr…

Personnel Concepts is the only vendor that keeps G. Neil from being the most annoyingly intrusive. They're right up there with those people who try to bill you for unordered toner cartridges.
-
You can get everything for free, but the all-in-ones are nifty to have. M Lee Smith's are just as nifty as Personnel Concepts, and the MLS people are not irritating. http://store.hrhero.com/all-posters

It's amazing how much easier it is to handle those cravings when you follow this simple step... Get a new doctor! Seriously... if he got his MD from BYU, stay away!

The law varies by state. In Missouri, the notice is 30 days, I believe.

I thought they finally decided to honor Sarah H properly!
-
All other factors aside, I would suggest the last thing you want is a disgruntled employee who is only with you because he couldn't find another job.
-
We had to switch carriers, but renewing with the old carrier would have still been a slight decrease.
-
Ours was back in April and the overall decrease was about 24%.
