It's okay, I knew somebody would drag us back to the topic sooner or later. I do have applicants who will enter all zeros, or 123456789 as their social, and that's okay as long as they understand I'm going to have to have it at some point. I did h…

Good to hear. On a related note, I am somewhat disappointed at the lack of Oscar talk on the forum this year. Personally, I don't think I've seen any of the movies that won OR were even nominated, but it's usually a fun conversation nonetheless.

Nothing here... We retain digital versions of most other documents, but we haven't added HR docs to that process.

Hey, umm... we don't really go for that off-topic stuff around here. Don't make me contact the forum moderators.

The Social Security # is requested on our application, but the DOB is not. I'm thinking of adding the DOB. Strangely enough, I also recently completed an application that asked me when Nae had her last cycle. It just felt weird.

Haha! Thanks! I lead with it a bit too often, though...

Undocumented? Misapplied? Disorganized?

Thanks Sharon!

Wow! Seven years between posts! That must be a record...

I agree $8 a day is a lot, Paul, but it's a lot more effort, too. I have to start earlier, because I won't drive as fast on the bike. I have to wear a rain suit over my clothes - not because it's raining, because I won't ride in the rain, but to ke…

In a previous career, we had a lot of piece-rate employees. They still had to be paid at least the equivalent of minimum wage for their total weekly hours.

My car's mileage isn't horrible... 20 or so. But every day I ride my motorcycle instead, I save about $8 in gas. It doesn't sound like a whole lot, but $8 a day adds up during the warm months.

As the husband of a regional administrator for our state's division of probation and parole, I can tell you it's almost a certainty that if he's doing time because of an alcohol-related offense, he's probably been enrolled in a 'program' while he's …

I think you have to take it all in context. It's great if you want to give the stay-at-home mom a chance to re-enter the workforce, for example, but it certainly doesn't seem to pay off for me. In the past six months alone, I've hired three who fi…

No one ever has to ask me "Boxers or briefs?"

This is a great reason to have an automated/online application system.

I guess a Smart Car and my Vulcan might be an even match.

I'd be prone to offering employees the opportunity to petition for unpaid leave on a case-by-case basis, with criteria including the nature of the leave, employment record, and business needs. I would not develop any type of policy that would make …

There are already hundreds (or thousands) of 24/7 webcams streaming from cubicles around the world.

We were down to 2.83 a few days ago, but it's back up to 2.89 now. It's been as high as 2.99 in the past month, but that didn't last long.

Amen, Dasher.

It does create jobs for lawyers, at least.
Am I the onlyone to notice that 2/10/11 isn't here yet?
Boy, are YOU behind the times!

Nae is spot on. Don't include exceptions. The rare 3-day coma is not worth elaborating on in the policy.

The reference to Friendster and Geocities was a giveaway.

There are no "former posters", Paul. There are, however, several who haven't scheduled an end for their sabbaticals.

It was for a mortgage processor. We had three or four candidates who were qualified and can likely do the job, so it was easy enough to go to a backup candidate. The manager was torn between really wanting this candidate, and really wanting to get …

Nae just can't pass on an opportunity to show off her knowledge of the smut industry. It's a wonder she hasn't tried to get one of the Forum's categories reserved for it. "HR Lust", or "Benefits with Benefits", maybe. Don't get me wrong, I still l…

I did it yesterday. We made the offer Friday night, and she needed the weekend to think about it. That was fine, but as of yesterday she still felt she needed more time to think about it. I told her we were withdrawing the offer, and I picked some…
I don't think it's the same thing Frank. Auto liability is to protect others, not you, if you are in an accident. HCR conceptually will benefit everyone (healthier people and fewer using state paid care so less taxes), and i…
