I-9 Help!

I just came on board with a new company as the HR Manager and began doing an audit (internal) of the I-9's only to discover that the Manager that I replaced did not sign any of them. The employee sections are all complete and most of them have the appropriate documents but the manager did not certify/sign his part. What is the best way to go about correcting this issue?

  • Google "employer I-9 handbook" to get to the official USCIS report and look at question 33 on page 43 .  That is what i have done in the past.  If it was an ex-employee and there was no documentation, I put a note on that too.   As for the documentation, you should either keep all or none. Check your state laws, I think it is Colorado (and maybe others) that do NOT allow you to keep the documentation and other states require you to keep it.
