Compensation while Traveling

Anybody know a quick go to spot to find proper compensation for my non-exempt employees while traveling?  I am in 6 different states and wanted to check the different laws quickly...

  • Most states don't have any rules on travel away from home but some do.  Which states are you in? Federal FLSA requires compensation if travel away from home cuts across the employee's regular working hours.  It doesn't matter if the travel is on the weekend.  If the employee's workday 9 to 5, then travel on any day --- including Saturday and Sunday --- during those hours must be compensated. Every place I have worked paid employees for travel time no matter when it takes place. Plus if the employee performs work during the travel (checks email, prepares a presentation) you have to pay them for that time.
