MA Maternity Leave Act - starts?

Can anyone clarify when the 8 weeks of MA Maternity leave begins? I believe it begins as of the date of birth rather than the first date out on leave but am having trouble locating that information online. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Is bed rest 30 days prior to estimated full gestation for "the purpose of giving birth" since an absence of bed rest may lead to a termination of pregnancy? I'm not familliar with the law, just curious about it's scope and possible overlap with FMLA.
We just had 3 women out on MA Maternity leave. It begins the moment the woman gives birth. If they go on bedrest or have any other complications prior, they would be covered by disability and FMLA.
