Apple Rice

Has anyone heard of using apple juice instead of water when cooking rice? My boss was telling me he tried it and it was divine. He said the only condiments you add are olive oil, salt and pepper. He did say he diced up a Granny Smith apple and added it during the steaming process.

I may try it but was wondering if anyone else had done this before.

  • Never heard of it, but that doesn't mean a thing. Heck, I haven't even tried making rice with chicken broth instead of water. Of course, I don't make that much rice anyway. Let us know if you try it!
  • If you boil come chicken tenders in a quart of water until chicken is done, take the chicken out and add 3 cups of rice, a tsp salt and other seasonings you may like (i.e. black pepper, garlic, italian seasoning, cilantro) and turn the heat down to LOW.

Dice the cooked chicken and return to the pot and then cover it to steam the rice. After about 1/2 hour stir rice carefully (more like turning it over by spoonfulls in the pan) and re-cover the pan for about 15 minutes more.

This is called "Arroz con Pollo" (rice with chicken) in Venezuela.
