Irritation

Is it just me?
I understand that we need advertisers to help keep costs down. I appreciate that I get to pay less because I see a spot of advertising here and there.
I can even appreciate that it is more likely to catch my eye if it is in bright colors or moves. However, there is such a thing as too much. While trying to read John's blog yesterday, and while trying to read posts today, the Aetna commercial to the right never stopped running and flashing. The movement intended to catch my eye would not let it go again when I was ready to concentrate on the information I came for in the first place. I found it extremely annoying. It was a huge turnoff to Aetna, and a turn off for this site.
I am also concerned because last week at the state conference I told quite a few people about this site. I hate to think someone got on only to find this irritation.
In fact, I can't stand it anymore. I will come back next week and hope the ad has run its course.

PS: Jim - you stopped me at the conference to say hi and then disappeared. What happened to you?

Just go into your tools and make your default font larger and it will push the ad off the right hand side of your screen. They can force feed us, but they can't make us swallow!

Since we are discussing irritating marketing, my current pet peeve is commercials on the radio which are meant to sound like a talk show. The announcer raves about a certain product and I guess the hope is that an inattentive listener wouldn't know the difference between a 30 second commercial and a real talk show.
Not that I have any money to buy anything but if I DID, I wouldnt purchase products from advertisers who annoy me or insult my intelligence.
Ok, I feel better now. This Aetna ad is very distracting and gets on my nerves too.
RANT RANT RANT...I went to an interesting seminar last weekend with my husband that truly opened my eyes... Allow me to finish with a quote from Albert Einstein, "We can't solve the problems of today with the same thinking that created them." How applicable in so many situations?!
I agree with all of the "Irritations" listed so far. I also get irritated by the website advertising that ENLARGES and flows around the page if you accidentally run your mouse over it.
Most irritating and hopefully coming to an end soon, is all of the political advertising on every media outlet in the world right now!! I've heard enough; get these elections over soon!!!
