I have a fondness for Neil Diamond since he was my late brother's idol. I like many of his old songs and I glad to learn he came out with a new 12 Songs cd.
For me, Barry Manilow isnt fit to carry the sequined shoes of Neil Diamond. I see Neal Diamond as a singer/songwriter and I see Manilow as a lounge act. Plus, Neal Diamond just released a new CD and apparently it is amazing.
Barry Manilow was a big hit (singer/songwriter) until he admitted his secret for getting his songs to be hits. It was so simple people were offended (he talked about how you build it up and then end it). He also lost ground when he had a few episodes of losing it a bit on stage. Mostly he was a little too clean for most rockers, and in a completely different zone for those who don't rock. It was as embarrassing to admit you liked him as it had been to admit you liked the Carpenters in the 60's.
I have always loved both of them because their songs spoke to me. But please, don't tell anyone! (And I only mentioned the Carpenters...I never actually admitted that I liked them!)
Don't worry, Nae, you can admit anything on this thread. Its much too long for most people to even read or download if you are on a slow connection. Think of it as your HR confessional.
I remember back in Jr. High there were two rock stations on the radio (AM). One was cool and one was totally NOT COOL. It was social suicide to admit that you listened to the NOT COOL one.
The UNCOOL station was called the Mighty Six Ninety. 690 on the AM dial... so I have heard.
I saw Barry in concert in Vegas a couple of weeks ago (my husband MADE me go - he is a TOTAL Neil Diamond/Barry Manilow fan while I am a total rocker chick - AC/DC, Def Lepard etc). I totally agree with the post that he looked like a drag-queen - because until I read that, I just couldn't put my finger on "why" he looked so weird to me while we watched him perform and that term TOTALLY FIT!!
Hey Nae, I liked the Carpenters and I still have one of their albums tucked away somewhere. You know, those big disks that you play on a record player that has an arm and a needle.
Ever since I watched in horror as one of my in-laws sung a slurred version of "Dead or Alive" by Bon Jovi in a bar, I have developed an uncontrolled twitch whenever someone says the word "karaoke".
Anyone getting carpal tunnel in their "mouse hand" from scrolling for miles to see all the posts? I'm bringing it back to the left again so my mouse doesn't wear out.

Paul, you just won the prize for the most number of edits in one post. In fact I think you have more edits in that post than I have total over the past 3 years.

Let me guess, as with most HR HERO "prizes" there is no actual prize, right?
And second prize is you get to be moderator for two days.
Ok, we have reached post #150. We are halfway there. Way to go people.
Maybe we should try a "build a story". Basically you start a story and everyone adds on until Ray ruins it.
Ok, here goes..
One morning, I was hard at work (this is a fictional story) and suddenly I heard sirens in the distance. I didnt think much of it until the sirens grew louder and then seemed to stop somewhere near the employee cafeteria...

Foreigner's "Feels like the first time" is another ageless one.

Barry's easier to sing along with. Was kinda freaky seeing him on American Idol, though. Looked like an old drag queen to me.

Time for a new debate:
Ray a or Parabeagle?
x}>
(Where is Beagle, anyway?)
How's this for a new debate:
Ben 'n Jerrys vs Häagen-Dazs
Dang. Worldwide birdflu or regional birdflu?
