Can't get rid of them

A local fellow HR manager called this morning with an interesting situation. On Monday she terminated an administrative employee for failure to perform her duties. She showed up for work Tuesday - so she was fired again; and on Wednesday too. Ever have an employee who didn't understand the concept of termination?

I had a friend who worked in a small pharmacy in South Carolina where the boss fired a good-for-nothing employee whose main job was sweeping the floors. The employee showed up for work the next day, acting like nothing happened. The boss didn't have the nerve to fire him again, so the guy kept his job. #-o

How can you fire someone if they don't work for you? Maybe there was a language barrier or maybe the manager didn't speak clearly enough or maybe this EE couldn't understand what NO means.

On what grounds did they fire her on Tuesday and Wednesday? I would have used insubordination because she was not listening to her supervisor. Of course, how can they be insubordinate if they have no supervisor. You can't keep firing her for not doing her job because she doesn't have a job not to do.

Has she shown up today? If so she is indeed trespassing and should be treated that way, ie calling the police to be removed.

Maybe I missed something but I think this was a "I can't believe it" HAR DE HAR thread, not a question as to what to do. This is just like some people who think that deers actually live in trees!!!!

Exactly, it just struck me a funny. I wondered if "unable to follow simple instructions" was included in the (1st,2nd or 3rd) termination notice.

They finally got the hint and didn't come back today. Security was waiting this morning in case a stronger explanation was needed. I did clarify with Maryann (HR Director) - the person did not have a memory problem (I asked if they might not be able to understand the concept for this reason) and English was the only language so it didn't get lost in the translation. Just slow to comprehend.

I would also consider drug testing the supervisor who kept on terminating her. Please don't tell us the supervisor completed termination paperwork at each occasion.

Heard the follow up details over the weekend. Termination one was the formal with write up, final check and unemployment information (required in Mass. terms) - the nice knowing you, theres the door. Termination 2 was, don't you remember yesterday when we showed you the door, Termination 3 was - you don't work here and you are trespassing. If she showed up again, security was to meet her in the parking lot and inform the police. They did expect her Friday to come looking for another paycheck but fortunately, she got the hint.
