I have an employee who recently has developed a bad odor about them. This has had this for a while and some days are worst than the others. It's not a B.O. smell but rather a "not showered for days" smell. This person's appearance is clean and does not look like he does not shower, just smells like it.

This person has no friends that I can talk to about it and the Manager will not address the issue with them either. There are comments by other employees that are starting to get around and before others make it obvious to him and humilate him, I would like to address it first.

Give me some suggestions in approaching him. I am a female perhaps having a male talk to him might be better.

Summer is coming and it's only going to get worse! HELP!

Ditto to what Leslie said. I would also like to add, it is not appropriate to talk to friends of an employee about something like this even if they have a best friend at work. That would humilate the person worse and be a confidentiality issue - as in how could anyone trust an HR dept that goes around talking to their buddies about employee issues? Talk to the person who is "causing the issue".
