Okay, we've had nonnegotiable movies and this is such an, uh, eclectic group that I was curious to know what your "nonnegotiable" recording artists and/or composers list would look like. Among mine would be
The Beatles
Harry Chapin
Prokofiev
Simon and Garfunkel
The Kingston Trio
Guess that about covers it.

U2- minus the zooropa album
Rolling Stones- minus Keith Richards doing more drugs than the world
James Brown- minus the prison term
Al Green- minus the hot grits being poured on him
Santana- minus the being told by an angel to make Supernatural (wacky!)
Good choice Parabeagle, this should be interesting. At the risk of being stoned to death, I never really did like the Beatles that much. You know what they say, it's either the Stones or the Beatles.
Doug Yeo
Randy Hawes
Ben van Dijk
Paul Denson Pollard
They all have something in common and probably no one on this forum knows what it is.
For a composer:
Giovanni Gabrielli
>about twelve. I am 25 now and I always wonder what it would have been
>like to have been alive when they were still together. When did they
>break up? I enjoy Paul's more recent music too. Did anyone catch
>them on the Grammy's? I am so jealous of anyone who was able to see
>them live in their prime !!!
Boy, now I DO feel old... I remember when they were "in their prime" and still have some of the vinyl I bought when I was in grade school and high school (Parsley, Sage, Rosemary and Thyme, Sounds of Silence, Bookends - all great stuff)
Im trying to be careful with my words here, being new to the forum and all, I would hate to alienate everyone already!!
April
Jimmy Buffett would have to be at the top of the list (For those that visit the forum often here is some trivia for ya....What do Jimmy and Don D have in common?)followed closely by Bob Marley and The Greatful Dead. I go from Parrothead to Deadhead.
Melissa Etheridge
Creed
For the 'Oldies but Goodies', most definitely:
Pink Floyd
Led Zepplin
Eagles
Aerosmith
Metallica
Yea, yea...I know, I was a 'metal chick' at heart, but I did also really like Duran Duran (before the first split-up). Okay, yes, I'm a 'child of the 80's'. They say your teen years are the biggest influence years to music. My tastes ranged from Def Leppard to Duran Duran...what a gammet!
Can't really say I've loved either the Stones or the Beatles...but if I was forced to choose one, I'd have to say the Beatles. I prefer "The King" anyday...Elvis Lives!
Beatles
U2 (I agree with the Zooropa comment...)
Love some of the new stuff - grunge, alternative, screaming (my cell phone used to ring Crawling by Linkin Park, but it wasn't very good. Now it rings Take Me Out To the Ball Game!)
By the way did anyone see the special on PBS with the folksingers. Since I'm still young, when did they get to be so old.
My list:
U2
Crowded House
David Bowie
The Cure
Oingo Boingo
David Gray
Almost any praise and worship music.
Paul
I also like:
Barry Manilow
Most disco
Ozzie!
Trivia - who was the first female inducted into the rock and roll hall of fame?

Chopin
Mozart (Mozart's Requiem)
Enya
Sheryl Crow
Dixie Chicks
Everly Brothers (oldies but goodies)
Beach Boys
Avalon (Contemporary Christian)
Delirious (Christian Alternative)
