Non-negotiable Recording Artists/Composers

Okay, we've had nonnegotiable movies and this is such an, uh, eclectic group that I was curious to know what your "nonnegotiable" recording artists and/or composers list would look like. Among mine would be

The Beatles
Harry Chapin
Prokofiev
Simon and Garfunkel
The Kingston Trio

Guess that about covers it.

Rolling Stones- minus Keith Richards doing more drugs than the world

Santana- minus the being told by an angel to make Supernatural (wacky!)

Good choice Parabeagle, this should be interesting. At the risk of being stoned to death, I never really did like the Beatles that much. You know what they say, it's either the Stones or the Beatles.

I agree. It seems like it's either Stones or Beatles, seldom both. My brother's the Stones fan and likes to throw it up in my face that at least THEY'RE still recording. x;-)

Good choices.. would add The Eagles and Billy Joel. Perhaps not the greatest, but their songs are so ingrained in me they have become great to me.

It is very dificult to find an artist or band these days where you can enjoy the entire album. My husband loves to by CD's and keep up with all types of music- he would love to be a DJ someday. I, on the other hand, prefer my trusty, dusty Simon and Garfunkle collected works CDs! Nothing compares! I started listening to them when I was about twelve. I am 25 now and I always wonder what it would have been like to have been alive when they were still together. When did they break up? I enjoy Paul's more recent music too. Did anyone catch them on the Grammy's? I am so jealous of anyone who was able to see them live in their prime !!!

Boy, now I DO feel old... I remember when they were "in their prime" and still have some of the vinyl I bought when I was in grade school and high school (Parsley, Sage, Rosemary and Thyme, Sounds of Silence, Bookends - all great stuff)

Jimmy Buffett would have to be at the top of the list (For those that visit the forum often here is some trivia for ya....What do Jimmy and Don D have in common?)followed closely by Bob Marley and The Greatful Dead. I go from Parrothead to Deadhead.

Yea, yea...I know, I was a 'metal chick' at heart, but I did also really like Duran Duran (before the first split-up). Okay, yes, I'm a 'child of the 80's'. They say your teen years are the biggest influence years to music. My tastes ranged from Def Leppard to Duran Duran...what a gammet!

Can't really say I've loved either the Stones or the Beatles...but if I was forced to choose one, I'd have to say the Beatles. I prefer "The King" anyday...Elvis Lives!

Gosh, this is making me want to go home a dig out all my old dusty ALBUMS! I forgot REO Speedwagon on my list. NEVER tire of them. Any of you remember the first record you ever bought? Mine was Jan and Dean, Deadman's curve. Poor choice, I know, but have never forgotten it.

My first 45 was They're coming to take me away by Napolean the XIV. I still have it. The second was Kicks by Paul Revere and the Raiders. Still have that one too. I was 10 or 11.

No, mine was worse -- very first record (a 45 RPM) I ever bought was "Don't Let The Rain Come Down" by the Serendipity Singers(?) Back when folk music was really big (hence, the Kingston Trio on my list).

Love the folk songs era. Couldn't do without the Weavers (however, that may be pre-folk music). Still listen to the sound track from "Peter Gunn" by H. Mancini. Anything Beatles.
By the way did anyone see the special on PBS with the folksingers. Since I'm still young, when did they get to be so old.

I really need to get to work, but have terrible spring fever. .Speaking of folk singers, a special memory is when my parents took me to see Peter, Paul and Mary in concert. They enjoyed it and it served to bridge that "generation gap" that was so prevelant.
