WOW! Gas prices are through the roof!

Again, not HR related, but definately relates to the economy:

I am sure some of you can top this,but I can remember when you could get a gallon of gas for under a buck! Prices are reaching $1.80 gal here in Ohio today! Did something happen in the world that I should be aware of? It was only a $1.40 this morning!

Have any of you noticed an increase in gas prices today or this week at all???

The gas at the station near my house went up 6 cents overnight to 1.80 ...I wonder what they will be tomorrow...?

While I'm only 40 + I remember when my older brother and I could fill the almost empty tank of his 1965 Ford and purchase a case of Coors both with a single ten dollar bill and receive change back. My how times have changed and continue to change at a fast pace. I tell our ee's that change is the only constant in life.

I have not checked the price today but two days ago we were at $1.54/gal.

New Hampshire checking in, our gas prices are @ $1.69 depending on where you shop and what grade of gasoline you use. It has krept up continously in the past two weeks. We've read in our newpapers by summertime we may be paying $3.00 a gallon. YIKS!! When will it all stop!

Green Bay's feeling the pinch too! A week ago gas was $1.43/gal. Now it's up to $1.69 and still climbing!

In Minnesota regular unleaded was about $1.55 a gallon Tuesday Morning, when I went to lunch on Tuesday afternoon, it was $1.75. They say it could be over $2.00 in the next month or so.

The three reasons they give on the local news are: 1). Cold weather; 2). Impending war with Iraq; and 3). The general strike in Venezuela.

I work in the trucking industry, so this could begin to have a big effect on the bottom line for us. If it leads to major cutbacks, it could become an HR related issue. x:'(

I'm in Louisiana. I live where Conoco, Texaco & Citgo Industries are located!!Most of our fuel supply is right here in town but our gas prices are climbing too. Monday it was 1.43/gal for Regular Unleaded and last night it was 1.59/gal and that is the CHEAP place. Other stations are 1.69/gal.

I'll be getting the bicycle out and leaving for work a little bit earlier!! Sorry for you guy's where it's COLD...

Pennsylvania (burbs of Philly) prices are @ 1.64 here depending on what grade you get. Another big expense is home heating oil...OUCH!! Last time I bought oil it was @ 1.30, heard today that it went up to 1.50. Spring better come soon or I'll be in the poor house buying gas and heating oil. I also heard gas prices are to be over 2.00 a gallon by summer. I forsee that cutting into my shore excursions...ugh sitting at home without fudge and funnel cakes. I'm depressed now!

Checking in from central Illinois....just thought our gasoline dealers association members were getting greedy! I guess it's all over the country. The gas price at the Shell station on the corner was $1.75 for the lowest grade. Sure hope this is not a trend!

Just looked out the window at our neighborhood station and it's $1.75 here in SE Wisconsin. I remember personally buying gas for $.199 during a 'gas war' during the sixties. Remember gas wars?? Those were the days!

It's $1.53 here in Jackson, MS and I thought ours was high! I recall gas wars and 32 cent gas and it ain't been that long ago, or has it? When Coors went up, I went to Milwaukee's Best Lite; but, we can't exactly do that with gas can we? The new Nissan car/truck multi-million dollar project is going up 10 miles to the north (which will rob all the good labor - 5400 employees projected) and our interstate station employees tend to climb ladders and run the price up every time 4 heavy equipment trucks pass by in a convoy enroute to Nissan. I haven't jumped a train or siphoned gas since college and generally ride a motorcycle only in the summer, but am studying all three as viable options now.

It ranges anywhere from $1.75 to $1.45 per gallon here in the area of Dallas that I live in. I am telling my age, but I remember gas at $.19/gallon. And, they gave Green Stamps and a set of drinking glasses with each fill-up.

Another Minnesotan checking in. I too remember when gas prices were 35 cents or 50 cents a gallon. I also remember "competition" which seems to have been extinct in the past 15 years, all gas stations seem to pump at the same price. I dont' understand alot about how they price it but I have often wondered in the past couple of years how can it go from one price to another in a day and then change again two days later. It seems to me the tankers can't be putting gas in the station tanks every day, can they? I really don't get the whole thing...one day we're paying the price for prospect of war, one day we're paying it because demand is up, one day we're paying it because demand is down. Kinda seems like it's at somebody's whim what we pay most of the time!!

Just filled up at the pump this morning and paid $1.58/gal. for regular in Mass. Not too bad....... even though it was all of six degrees outside!

MId-Missouri checking in. Filled up yesterday at $1.67. Must admit that I remember back in my high school days in the mid sixties when two "Service Stations" across the street from each other had a good old fashioned "gas war" and the price was $0.19 for a gallon of gas.

Kansas City is anywhere between $1.55 and $1.59. The highest legitimate price I recall was a couple of years ago when the price per gallon reached $1.79. There was a time (I believe it was in the days immediately following 9/11) somebody went off the deep end and posted the gas price at $4.95/gal. It was very interesting, several other stations followed their lead. Needless to say, the gouge only lasted a few hours and the MO Attorney General stepped in and hand-slapping followed for several months. When I heard the radio news stories about the price hike that day, I said, that's it. I will figure out how to use the bus system. But thankfully, didn't have to follow through - thankfully, because our public transportation s**cks. I live 7 miles from my office and it would take me nearly 2 1/2 hours to get here by bus!!!

SW Kansas Reporting in at 1.65 and climbing. We have a lot of commuters, so we are keeping our fingers crossed it won't go much higher! If so, I guess I will just have to hitch a ride with a bull hauler to work and home!
