Employee of the Month

We are looking at implementing an Employee of the Month program. Do
you have a policy with criteria? What is the reward,recognition for the person selected?

  • Our Employee of the Month Program was launched several years ago as a result of requests and suggestions from employees for such a program to recognize exemplary performance. Each month, two employees are recognized for their achievements and contributions.

    Our program is a way to acknowledge publicly an employee's outstanding contributions or performance, or extraordinary results; for example, customer/patient relations, professional competence, interpersonal skills within and outside their department, quality job performance, positive feedback from internal or external sources, other departments, etc.). Nominations can be made by one or more employees or managers. Each nomination (submitted on a form that's available in a couple of locations in our facility)remains active for three months.

    Nominees are reviewed and selected monthly by a committee composed of our Divisional VPs and HR. The presentation, pre-arranged with their manager, remains a surprise for the selected employees. They are recognized (in their department during working time) by the committee with balloons, a cake, a $75 gift certificate good at area restaurants, and a 3-month parking pass to a gated lot not open to the public or employees. There also is "Employee of the Month" recognition in our in-house publications and a permanent name/ department/month plaque for each employee on our EOM Board.

  • We have an EOM program. Each department twice a year nominates 3 individuals, then the EEs of that department along with all management vote from the 3 nominations. They receive a $50.00 gift certificate to a restuarant of their choice along with a really nice jacket with the company logo, their name and "Employee Of The Month" on it.

    We did it this way so that each department had an opportunity to be recognized.
  • We actually have an Employee of the Quarter program, but it works like this: employees nominate each other for the award, because they went out of their way to help them, or they overheard/saw them giving superior customer service, or they saw the employee helping out another co-worker. Every quarter, we add up the nominations (they are submitted through our suggestion box program) and that employee gets public recognition and a $100 gift certificate to the store or restaurant of their choice. The employees really get into it and it's a big deal for them.
  • We are getting ready to start an employee of the month (EOM)program. We are requiring it to be peer driven i.e. employee must be nominated by thier peers. A peer committee will select EOM. An employee can only be chosen EOM once per quarter. The employee gets 5 tokens for free lunch and a special parking space along with a certificate and balloons. We haven't implemented yet. Probably will in the next 2-3 weeks.
