double shift

I have an employee that has volunteered to work a double shift which would be 20 hours straight (10 hrs p/shift). EE would get lunch breaks, overtime etc. My question is can we work the employee that many hours straight? I'm in Tennessee. Thanks

Unless there is some state law or safety rule, you sure can.

In North Carolina you can work an employee 24-7 with no breaks at all if you want as long as they are over age 16. Might want to check with your local DOL. I have found that they are very helpful and you don't have to give your company name.

I would hope this is to be very short term, like several days. Surely you don't anticipate working a person 20 hours straight on a regular basis. And it's nice that they would get lunch. x:-)
