Mandated work schedule for exempt managers

We have a Director who wants to require that his managers work six day weeks until a particular goal is accomplished in each of the manager's respective areas. Some managers will probably accomplish this goal sooner than others. My question is since we consider these managers exempt under the executive exemption and they are paid to perform a job, can we mandate that they work a specific schedule. Currently, most of these managers work a 5 day work week but will occassionally work an additional day on their own choice. Some managers have voiced concerns of being required to work an additional day. I've tried a few websites but cannot find a specific answer. Any help or guidance is appreciated.
