Accrual of vacation

Our manufacturing demand has been down so we have had employees voluntarily take time off any where from 1-4 hours per week. Because the manufacturing demand or lack there of, has not picked up, we may have to cut back hours for more people, and at this point, it would not be voluntary. My question is this, at what point do you look at these reduced hours and start to look at it affecting their vacation accrual? Any help you can give would be extremely appreciated. If you have a current policy that works like this and can share, it would be great as well. Many thanks

  • You may want to write your personnel policies to state that an eligible employee accrues vacation time in proportion to the percentage of a full-time schedule worked. For example, if an employee accrues 1.538 hours per week based on a 40 hour work week, the employee would only accrue 1.377 hours if the employee's work hours were reduced to a 36 hour work week.
