Previous Employment

I saw the post regarding the applicant who didn't show up and am curious how you handle the following situation...

I have worked in HR for other companies in our area (all manufacturing) and have received numerouos applications from people who worked for one of my previous employers and who were terminated due to attendance (many simply stopped showing up for work). Some of these people even have the nerve to call here asking if they could be interviewed.

How do you handle?
