Can an employee be served for court papers at work??? How much can HR cooperate if any??? Help??

Yep an employee can be served at work - unless the company has a specific policy that prohibits the practice. Also, I wouldn't let the process server on the production floor, instead I would have the employee meet with the server in a private place. I hope this helps!

Regarding the serving of legal docs - you might want to remind the receptionist, whatever HE/SHE signs for, they could be held personally responsible for ensuring that the order is carried out.

We have several companies in our building and it amazes me how fearlessly the receptionists might sign for something and leave the paperwork laying around. Confidentiality is totally shot, not mention the fact that the people that need the legal docs may or may not end up with them...

Same here. It is usually someone from law enforcement that serves the papers. We ask the officer to wait in the HR office and call the ee to come here.

I have the employee called off the floor to the HR office where the officer serves the employee with the paperwork. We never sign for the paperwork. Thats as much help as we give.
