Those of you who have computer positions - how do you go about determining if they are exempt or non exempt? Our IT people generally work very independently with little supervision.

This particular position is responsible for analyzing, designing, testing, implementing and supporting clinical applications (medical practice).

She is currently hourly, but has been given much more responsibility and autonomy in this position.

We look at whether the workflow or output is self-directed or directed by a manager or supervisor. The only salary positions we have are exempt, if the position is non-exempt, they are paid hourly. The salaried positions are project or objectives driven rather production driven. Each job description includes a statement that specifies under which FSLA classification it is exempt.
