Safety Bonus Question

We give out safety bonuses every six months. The employee must be "accident free" and is defined as free from any accident that causes damage to property, loss time from work, or personal injury. This month alone we have had two employees that were rear-ended sitting perfectly still at red lights and one that was stopped for a school bus. The other parties received tickets and our employees were at no fault of their own. However, as the policy is written these employees are not entitled to a safety bonus. Do others of you have simular polices or do you have a no fault policy?

We do not give out bonuses, but do have a practice of providing ees in our distribution facilities a steak dinner (with all the trimmings) every month if their facility is accident free. The dinner is prepared by the managers of the facility. This involves only work related incidents, or non-work related accidents that result in lost time (FMLA qualifying reasons excluded). It is a great time for our ees. We have a dinner, as well as safety competitions where teams compete head to head for prizes. It has drastically reduced the number of indudtrial related accidents,as well as situations where ees are out of work for "minor" aches and pains.

We have a no fault safety bonus too. Last year one individual lost it when someone else dropped a hammer on his face. No fault is no fault.

We give everyone in the company a paid day off for every six months that we go without a lost-time accident. We just got our fourth one in a row yesterday!

We have a pizza lunch every accident-free 45 days.

We had another vehicle that was hit from behind at a red light yesterday afternoon. That makes four for the month and two for yesterday. This is unbelievable!
