SS#'s & Date of birth

Ok...my day is just going downhill... We are implementing a new time clock system. Within this system each manager has access to their teams employees time (clocking in/out) as well as having access to a tab that states "Human Resources". Within this screen the manager can see the employee's marital status, ss# & DOB. I feel that manager's should not have access to this infomation. But I have been "scolded" by one of the executives that think HR is on a power trip and sees no big deal with allowing managers to view this info.

Am I off base? Any guidance on how I can calmly explain this would be helpful.
