Employee Recognition Programs

I am interested in what other companies do to recognize employees. We have tried an Employee of the Month program, which rewarded employees with a reserved parking space for a month and lunch with the President. But, that died out because we couldn't get enough people nominated. Any good ideas for something new?

  • Our company holds a "fun friday" once a month. We provide lunch for all employees. During this time we recognize employees for training by certificates, birthdays a $20.00 gift card to blockbuster or the movies along with a large Hershey's candy bar and ballons, anniversaries by certificate and $20.00 gift card with certificate for 1 day comp time, employee of the month by certificate and certificate for 1 day comp time and various other recognitions as needed. We also provide all of our employees with soda pop, tea, juices, coffee, etc. each day for their breaks and lunches. We strive to make our employees enjoy coming to work as much as possible. These are just a few of the recognition programs we have. Hope you find this informaton helpful...
  • Can I come work for you???
  • At our company we are all trying to following the overall strategy outlined in the book; "First Break All the Rules". At first I was skeptical, but after a few months it seems to be working. The book does contain some rather Interesting concepts.
  • cali,
To look at previous discussions on this same topic, scroll down to the "search" function (bottom left of this screen) and type in "Employee recognition." Several earlier streams of content will pop up. You'll find some other good ideas in addition to the new ones provided here. Good luck. tk

  • All our managers have a supply of Employee Recognition cards for on-the-spot recognition. We have Free Lunch; Extended Lunch; Time Off (usually an hour); Lunch with the Boss; Early Departure; and blank cards we can personalize or put with a gift like flowers or candy. It is the manager's discretion when and what to give. They should know what their employees will like and what is appropriate for the occasion.
  • Our company has several levels of awards...individual, team, department. Each year our Admin staff gets together and comes up with a running theme...we did the olympics one year....but the idea is to reward teamwork, excellent internal/external service, going above and beyond the job, something that really benefitted the agency, that sort of thing. Nominations can be made by anyone in the agency. We often nominate the print shop because its staff does so much for us.

The team rewards are usually a delivered Pizza lunch or breakfast donuts and coffee...We had been doing gift certificates for the individual awards, but it was determined that we had to issue a 1099 (i think) for Federal Taxes. We didn't think it was fair to have to count a reward as part of the compensation package, so we've gotten away from that. Some departments do offer extended lunch hours, or early end times.

    Good luck...
