Do the three days of serious illness have to be scheduled work days?

Hi all,
Under the definiton of serious illness, it states "more than three consecutive days" . Do these three days have to be scheduled work days? If an employee is under a doctors care from Thursday to Monday, a period of five days, but only missed three days of work, Thursday, Friday and Monday, is this an event?
I thought I read somwhere that the days of incapacitation did not have to be scheduled work days.
