Is it legal in CA to deduct sick time or unused vacation before disability benefits kick in?

We have an employee who recently was placed on disability for a WC related injury. The EE has some unused vacation & sick pay still on the books. Do we need her permission to deduct this or can we do this automatically in lieu of shortening her paycheck?

...except to say that statutory and regulatory compliance are key. Ironically enough, your own insurance company is often the best source for state level compliance information. See what your carrier has to say.
