FMLA or not?

I have an employee who exposed himself to a severe sunburn over the prior weekend. He called in sick on Monday, came in to work on Tuesday, however, left after working 2 hours to seek medical treatment. The ER doctor wrote him a note that he could return to work on Friday. His work schedule is 10 hour evenings, M - Th., so he was not scheduled to work on Friday. The employee requested vacation to cover his days off, but he also asked for FMLA coverage. He meets the eligibility requirements. Does he still qualify for FMLA due to the fact that he came in for 2 hours on Tuesday and was not technically out more than 3 consecutive calendar days?
