Exec misses appt for physical

One of our vice presidents was scheduled for one of those fancy "executive" physicals under his comp package, and he failed to go and didn't cancel.  Now we are faced with a substantial "no show" fee.

Unfortunately, our policy doesn't specifically say that if someone fails to show for a company-paid procedure, the individual is responsible for the penalty fee.

I think the VP should pay, but I'm not sure the best way how to approach the subject. Any suggestions on how to handle this?

  • First, change your policy NOW to avoid a problem in the future. But, if during the set up for the appt, the VP was advised that he needed to cancel prior to or a charge would incur, then I think you could have a superior tell him he is liable for the charge (this is not ideal, but it was irresponsible to miss the appointment and the employee should be held accountable for not honoring the appointment.) Good luck.
