PTO - How many days?

Our company gives 15 days a year of PTO. We are looking to give more days with tenure - 1-2 yrs of employment 15 days, 3-4 yrs 18 days, etc.

I am seeking information on the number of days other organizations give according to the number of years worked. I would appreciate the help.

We give 1.5 days per month for employees with tenure up to 3 years, 1.75 for years 3 to 5, 2 days per month for years 5 to 8 and 2.50 per month for 8 years and up. Employees start earning in the first full month after they've been here for 60 days, but the anniversary date for PTO is counted from the date of hire.  It took some time for employees to adjust from the sick day/vacation day program we had before. It gives employees more vacation time if they don't need the sick time, but if they have a year where they're sick a lot, they don't have as much vacation time.

How did you make the transition from vacation/sick leave to a PTO policy?  What did you do with the vacation and sick leave that employees had on record from the old system?  How did you communicate the changes to employees.  We are looking at making the same change later this year.

The vacation time was rolled into the PTO time and employees who were over the accrual limit (1 1/2 times annual allotment) had 3 years to "spend down" their vacation time.  The sick time stayed in a sick time bank and employees who took sick time had to use from that bank before using their PTO time.  We told employees about the program three months before it went into effect.  Having the spend down time helped with the transition.  You may have to adjust the spend down time or use a vacation bank like a sick bank, depending on how much time employees have accrued.  There are so many companies that have PTO that employees will probably know a little about how it works already.  Good luck!

Our company rolls vacation days, personal days and sick days in PTO Days.  They are accrued at a rate equivalent as follows:

Year 1 and Year 2 = This amounts to 1 day per month

Year 3 and Year 4 = This amounts to 1.25 days per month

Year 5 and up = This amounts to 1.5 days per month

Days are based on a calendar year, would apply to only full-time employees and would start to accrue once the employee has had six consecutive months of employment.  The employee can carry-over a maximum of 10-days per year into the next calendar year - however, an employee may never exceed more than eighteen days of accrued time in any given year.
