  • The first step is to communicate honestly. Without trust you will have poor morale. Build the trust by speaking honestly, and doing what you say you will do. This needs to start from the top. If things are bad, say they are and outline how you plan to change them. If things are good, don't hide it and give credit where it is due.

Second is to closely observe your employee's interactions and react accordingly. Praise success and those who go above and beyond, and handle the negative people appropriately (either by turning them around or getting them out). Don't allow bullying and don't allow unhappy people to poison others.

Just my 2 cents. Good luck!
  • Thank you for that information Nae Nae..
  • Some more words of wisdom...

    - If you say you're going to do something, do it. Employees have long memories and can be quick to hold grudges.
    - A mistake many companies make is to implement things that managers think will improve morale, without ever actually asking employees what it is they need to be happier/more engaged/etc. There's a great book called "It's Your Ship" that does a good job of illustrating it. Ask employees for input, and work toward giving them what they ask for.
    - Change is often met first with resistence, then mockery, before acceptance. Stick with it....things will improve!
