FMLA Question - Dental situation

I was approached with my first FMLA situation where it applied to a dental issue......employee has an abcess, is causing him some mouth pain, employee was given an antibiotic and is taking that - so the employee wanted to check on whether FMLA might cover him in this situation for a day or two until the antibiotic kicks in with the mouth pain.
Should I have him go ahead and give him the paperwork for him to see if the dentist will complete the paperwork and then review it to see if this qualifies, or is this a situation that is definitely not covered??
Employee does have just enough available PTO to cover his absence so either way he has to use his PTO, but just wanted to be sure whether this is a covered "serious medical condition."
Appreciate any feedback!
