2012 Health Insurance Rates

Still Need Coffee

This isn't a question for the group, but more a discussion topic - we got our finalized rates for 2012 health insurance, and they actually went DOWN 2.1%!

Just had to share it with someone who actually knows what a big deal that is, since you know the only thing the employees will say is "well then why didn't my rates go down more?" Ungrateful wretches.....

Oddly enough, everything else went up, from dental to LTD. What about you, forumites? Are you celebrating or cringing this year?

Health went down significantly when we switched carriers in April. Dental, Life, and LTD were flat, and STD went down a few percent.

Wow, a 2% decrease? That's great! The good thing about our renewal this year was that rates didn't go up as much as we had feared. We had about a 9% increase and we had expected a double-digit increase, mostly because of one huge claim, but it hit too late in the year to affect the renewal rates. So we were pretty satisfied with only 9%.

Our dental went up a little bit, but it's combined with our medical so that's factored into the overall increase percentage. Our vision, disability, and life all stayed the same.

I'm impressed! We are self-funded and I don't expect to get a decrease. Our reinsurer is haggling over rates and we still don't have a quote even though our open enrollment is in December. Dental was down slightly.

We too are self insured and have been fortunate to have had two pretty good years. Our reinsurer came in with a 2% increase to maintain the same coverage we now have.
In 2011 we made no changes to our plan - even kept all employee costs flat. It does look like we will be bumping up the employee cost just a bit for 2012.
