Hi!

Has anyone been to see the movie, Horrible Bosses?

I'm pretty sure nobody here works with any horrible supervisors, but on the off chance that I'm wrong about that, what do they do that makes them horrible? What do you do to turn them around?

Mark Schickman used this movie as the inspiration for his latest column (if you have access to California Employment Law Letter, check out "First thing, let's kill all the . . . bosses"). His point is that workplace violence isn't really funny (and neither are "kill all the lawyer" jokes).

I don't think that a movie like this would inspire someone to kill their boss -- but I could see an argument that this sort of entertainment certainly can help foster an attitude of discontent which may lead to subversive acts in the workplace.

You are right Frank. Just so you know, Schickman knows his Shakespeare. In his column he corrected the common misinterpretation of "First, let's kill all the lawyers." :

Investigate, then fire the culprit and maybe even the person who hired him.

I am always shocked when I read such horror stories of sexual harrassment and other obvious illegal and negative behavior by management. How do such stupid people end up in managment in this day and age?

He's the owner, so you're not going to be able to fire him or the person who hired him. In my experience, small business owners are usually the last ones to understand this particular area of proper behavior.
