Do any of you purchase data from salary survey companies like Payscale or GlassDoor? We have been asked to price some of these out..

Comments? Pros? Cons? Total Waste of Money?

We don't use them. . .no $.. . we have a good local network of other municipalities and access to a state wide survey of other governments. .

Might be more beneficial in the private sector?

Check with your state Chamber of Commerce. Our state sponsors a salary and benefits survey that is very beneficial and reasonably priced as well.

Go to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLR) website, they have salary surveys for every state, county, etc, for numerous positions & its free.

I find them very expensive and not that useful. As others have said, you can get the same information from state sponsored or Bureau of labor statistics. My company has grown quite a bit in recent years, so I do a lot of interviewing/hiring. My best source of information is still the salary history and expectations of the candidates I want to hire.
