Public v. Private Sector Wages

I've been watching the news regarding Wisconsin, and Tennessee regarding a similar issue, and came across an interesting article (link below).
Compensation analysis is, to me, one of the more interesting aspects of human resources and over the years have spent many long hours researching salary surveys. Because I've only worked for private sector employers, though, I never really had a reason to get into researching public employee wages. This article has been something of an eye opener for me and I'm curious to find out how accurate it is so welcome any and all comments on the subject.
