FMLA tracking software

Can anyone recommend FMLA tracking software that they have used and found to be effective and user friendly?

The ideal software program for me would be:

- not too expensive
- user friendly and intuitive
- include both federal and state
- generate notices, etc
- walks you through the various steps

Paul, how many employees do you have that qualify for FMLA?

We have about 160 FMLA-eligible employees, and we do ours the old fashioned way. By hand.

That's exactly why I was asking Paul how many ee's he has. We are around 120 employees now and I handle the same way you do.

We only have about 55 employees, so I can still track it in my head. When we hit 70-80, I'll probably have to resort to post-its.

130 employees here, and rarely do we have more than one out on FMLA at a time so we still do it the old-fashioned way, also: a combination of Excel and a good memory!

If my company had to rely on my memory they would be up the creek!

Excel is the way we handle it too.

We have about 70 employees who would qualify. My issue is not just tracking but the administration. I want to be sure that I am doing everything correctly. Since we dont have ee's out on FMLA leave very often, I don't feel like I stay informed on the process, notifications, and the balance between our state and federal FMLA.

There's an article in this month's SHRM "HR Magazine" about this very topic - I just ran across it today. It suggests some companies...perhaps someone has experience with one of them? If not, Paul, I guess you could check them out.

We have about 250 employees and I've used JJKeller's FMLA Manager software for years and like it a lot. It's very affordable too. I only use it for tracking purposes although it has quite a lot of other capabilities that I don't really need. The tracking part is great and very user friendly. I highly recommend it. jjkeller.com

I don't have a spreadsheet for it. Generally, I rarely have more than one person on leave at a time, and I only have one intermittent case. I would use ADP's accumulators to track the intermittent one if I thought it was getting close.

My spreadsheet is actually the attendance spreadsheet we keep for all employees. It is set up calendar-style and we mark all absences on it and when I have anyone on FMLA (we currently have two people at the same time, which is unusual for us) I track it directly on their attendance record. So far that has worked pretty well, but if for any reason we ended up with a bunch of people on FMLA at one time then I would probably have to think about doing something a little bit different.
