Better perks for part-time employees?

An article in today's [I]Washington Post [/I] discusses a survey of employers in the Washington D.C.-Baltimore area. Most of the employers surveyed said they offered part-time workers better perks this year instead of creating full-time positions. Such perks included extending leave benefits and medical, dental, and 401(k) plans to part-time employees.
Has anybody noticed this trend (or implemented it) in your workplace?
