Another COBRA subsidy extension

Congress is expected to take up legislation this week that contains another COBRA subsidy extension. The legislation, if passed, would extend the subsidy to individuals who are involuntarily terminated through December 31, 2010. (Without another extension, the subsidy is set to expire on May 31, 2010.) HRNews will be watching the situation and will report any new developments.

June obviously has come and gone and still no COBRA subsidy extension, although President Obama today urged Congress to add it to a bill that's in the legislative pipeline. tk

Today's [I]Tennessean [/I]newspaper tells the story of people whose COBRA subsidy is now expiring and whose health insurance premiums are more than doubling. While this doesn't directly affect HR and your current workforce, I sure will be glad when the economy starts creating jobs at a reliable pace again so more of these folks can get back on their feet. tk
