Landmark, Lifespring, Momentus...etc

Has anyone here ever heard of Landmark Education? Its a program that offers "life change" via a three day seminar for several hundred dollars. There are other similar programs out there with different names that are all classified as LGATs or Large Group Awareness Training.

Some people rave about their experiences and the help they have received while others claim these groups are emotionally manipulative and drain the participants of thousands of dollars.

Anyone ever heard of one of these programs or attend one of their events?

Actually the incident you are referring to comes up in some of the websites I've looked at so there might be some connection.

But otherwise, no. I have read about incidents of verbal abuse and humiliation. I guess the idea is to break the participant down so you can rebuild them into a stronger person.

Heck, I've had people in my life who were more than happy to verbally abuse and humiliate me for free...if I feel like I need more of that, I'll just call my ex-husband!

I've been to something that migh qualify as a LGAT, but no one humiliated me or anything like that. It was a series of different exercises, some small, some large, some done with one or two people (sometimes strangers and sometimes not), some done alone or some done with a group. It was actually a powerful experience. I learned alot about myself and people in general. I came out of it more confident and better able to communicate. It also helped me overcome several phobias. It was expensive though. If not, I would certainly have sent my kids long ago.

BTW, I have also done the sweat lodge thing. It was fun, but it wasn't taken to extremes. We didn't fast for 3 days, or get it too hot. It was an interesting experience that I wouldn't mind repeating at all. The important part of life is how you spend your time doing the little things, but a good adventure now and then can help you focus on what really matters to you.

Nae, sounds like you had a very positive experience. Hopefully, that is what most of these organizations are offerering. Perhaps they cant all be lumped into one group.

I wonder if we all chipped in, could we send Frank to something?
