Heat Record

Vancouver, WA hit it's all time record of 107 yesterday. We are working on our 4th 100 degree temp today with a cool down to 101.

I know a lot of you are used to temps being this hot, but it is very unusual for us in this area. We have been above 90 for at least 10 days and that is unusual also. The only good thing is low humidity.

Only a small percentage of homes have air conditioning and the ones that don't certainly wish they did.:eek:

I feel your pain! That's really unusual for your area. We had a week of 111-113, but that's expected here. It just came a little early.

I was going to ask how you were doing down there in Washington in the record heat. We watch the Seattle NBC channel and of course there's been lots in the local news about the heatwave and how people are coping when so few homes have any kind of air conditioning.

We're getting the fringes of the heat here in S.E. Alaska; it's been getting up to around 80 degrees all week and that's pretty warm for us, especially for more than a couple days in a row.

Even Seattle hit an all time record with 102 and it made the national news on ABC. I am looking forward to getting back to normal 80's.

You're having our normal summer weather! Well, actually, I guess it's more or less your normal summer weather,too...the last couple of times we were there during the summer it was cool and foggy. We didn't mind it so much when we were staying in a condo, but it wasn't much fun when we were tent camping.

The grey is clearing up and the sun is out. Its still cool and comfortable.

I have no doubt that everyone in Portland and Vancouver is here. Its much faster to walk through Cannon Beach today than drive.

I ran into friends from Portland at the beach last night. They drove out here just to take the kids to the beach for the evening. They said the 90 minute drive was better than sitting around in misery all evening.

I can only imagine that the heat has been the main topic of conversation in Portland and Vancouver.

Ok, I will fess up to doing that in college. It was fun... No better way to drive around campus than in the back of a pickup truck in a wading pool! Man, I have been here too long - dudes.

On the weather front - we had tornados touch down here yesterday evening. No deaths reported, just damage. I think I will trade the 100+ temps for tornados any day.

Friend in Iraq said it was 115 in Baghdad yesterday (and dusty). So I guess I shouldn't complain - but that hasn't stopped me yet!

Still Need Coffee

I must say, when summer hits I have never been so happy to move out of Texas! Chicago is having a really mild summer, which is just fine by me. We've had a couple days in the 90s, otherwise it stays in the 70s - 80s. Perhaps that means we'll have a mild winter as well???

Chicago can have mild winters, and do so frequently. Of course, mild is a relative term. Compared to Minneapolis (I hear) they are mild. :angel:

We just had the most mild July on record here in central MO. Lots of days in the low to mid 80's with a few 70's thrown in and much more rain than usual. A few nights even got down to the upper 50's. Of course there is no telling what August will bring...

Like Dutch, we've enjoyed one of our nicest and wettest Julys ever in Middle TN. Great running weather. Not so much fun when it comes to mowing the lawn. By the way, congrats to Dutch on passing 1,300 posts. Paul, meanwhile, is approaching 4,000! Stay tuned; he could reach it today if he downloads a few more photos of workers violating safety rules. tk
